Impregnation

The outer walls of buildings are constantly exposed to moisture coming from the environment, caused mainly by rainfall. Elevation that is unprotected from moisture is decaying under its influence. Moreover, fungi, molds and white stains are formed on clinker. Impregnation with AGASIL® E is an effective protection of the facade against rainwater and moisture coming from the environment. In addition, AGASIL® E prevents the formation of white spots (calcium hydroxide formation).

AGASIL® E is a colourless, non-dispersive impregnator, containing solvent, for hydrophobic protection of mineral surfaces (ordinary bricks, clinker bricks and silicate bricks, limestone, mineral plaster, mineral joints, concrete, reinforced concrete, ceramics as well as natural stone as: granite, marble, etc.) on the basis of siloxane micro-emulsion.

Properties of the impregnator:

  • resistant to alkalies
  • diffusive (vapour permeable)
  • a very fast hydrophobic effect
  • it does not block the capillaries of the impregnated surface
  • it facilitates keeping the surface clean
  • it is resistant to UV radiation and action of weak and non-concentrated acids
  • deeply penetrating
  • highly efficient
  • it does not adversely affect the adherence of glues, paints, gypsum mastic, etc.
  • it does not display viscosity when dried
  • it is well absorptive due to low particle mass
  • it is ready to use

AGASIL® E is a preparation designed to protect most of mineral surfaces against the destructive operation of water (rainwater, sprinklers) and other substances (i.e. salt). It is suitable to impregnate a majority of mineral structures such as clinker bricks, facing bricks, natural stone, limestone, concrete, reinforced concrete, mineral plaster, ceramic lining, joints, roof tiles, etc.

The AGASIL® E impregnator protects buildings façades and other types of mineral surfaces against aggressive compounds contained in the rainwater or in the air, and also against damage caused by frost. It prevents water stains and calcium hydroxide formation. As a result, it limits growth of lichens or moss on impregnated surfaces. AGASIL® E may be used for strongly alkaline surfaces, such as fresh plaster, joints. It is also suitable for slightly moist surfaces (up to 5% of moisture).

Impregnation of a building material withPo AGASIL® E causes that within the material a reaction of setting of siloxane in the surface capillary structure occurs. The impregnated surface retains a limited ability to absorb water without affecting its diffusive properties. Impregnation with AGASIL® E greatly reduces the adhesive property of the surface to dirt and harmful substances, coming from the environment, such as: dust, soot, rainwater, road salt, natural and major quantities of synthetic acids etc. A structure created after impregnation keeps the auto-cleaning ability, as in the case of rainfall the dirt is automatically washed away from the impregnated surface (so called “self clean” effect).

If more dirt accumulates, it can be removed with clean water under pressure (using a garden hose or a pressure washer). AGASIL® E is a deep penetrating impregnator and therefore the hydrophobic effect is long-lasting. The impregnator does not create a coat on the surface of the material; it does not spall or peel off.

How to implement the impregnate.

Working speed should be set in such a way as to put about 250 ml (1/4 litre) of the agent on one square metre. This is sufficient for excellent protection of the elevation.

AGASIL® E agent is available in packs: 1l, 5l, 10l, 20l also in a 200l barrel.

The surface that is to be impregnated must be dried in open air (2 days since the last rainfall) and absorbent. If the façade is to be cleaned, it must be cleaned before applying the impregnation. Subsequent intensive cleaning with use of sandblasting or strong chemicals could lower the effectiveness of the AGASIL® E impregnation.
